Medicine information

What Orforglipron is and how it works

Orforglipron is a small molecule, not a peptide, that activates the GLP-1 receptor, the same target as the gut hormone that signals fullness after a meal.

The US Food and Drug Administration approved it in April 2026. The European Medicines Agency has not authorised it, so no EU product information exists.

Authorisation status and label

  • In the United States it is approved for weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition, alongside diet and activity.
  • It has no EU authorisation, so no EU label applies to it.
  • In the EU it is available only within registered clinical trials.

Only a doctor who knows your history can decide whether a medicine suits you.

How to use Orforglipron

Once a day. In trials it was taken as one tablet a day, without food or water restrictions, with the dose increased in steps every four weeks.

No EU dosing. Without an EU authorisation there is no EU dosing schedule; in the United States the schedule is set by the US label.

Common side effects

Get urgent medical help if (whatever the frequency): Severe, persistent stomach pain, often spreading to the back, Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or trouble breathing

Most reported in trials (in more than 1 in 10 trial participants): nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting

Safety

Do not use Orforglipron if

  • You are in the EU outside a registered clinical trial, because no EU-authorised product exists
  • You already use another GLP-1 receptor agonist
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding

Medicines bought outside the regulated EU supply chain cannot be checked for content or authenticity.
